Scale In Your Area

Water Hardness

Scale in Loughton

While our water is treated to some of the highest standards in the world, the natural state of regional water can still cause some problems for householders in essex. Once rainwater comes in contact with the ground, it will either remain soft or reach a certain level of ‘hardness’, depending on the region. The harder your water supply, the more limescale it will deposit around your home and the more problems you’ll need to deal with.Water hardness levels vary across the UK, but the majority of the country (approximately 60%) lies within hard water areas.

13 million households in the UK suffer from the effects of limescale simply because their homes are being served with a hard water supply. This is something that is typically determined by the geology of the region you’re living in as certain types of rock can alter the water you get.

If you’ve ever looked inside your kettle chances are you’ve probably spotted a tough, stony, off-white crust at the bottom of it. This is limescale, limescale doesn't just form on taps and shower heads. Limescale can form on any surface where water is heated, including the internal surfaces of pipework and boilers.

Water hardness is measured by the number of mineral deposits in your water (parts per million – ppm). A soft water area would have under 60ppm while a very hard water area would register more than 180ppm. Our area is between 200 and 300 ppm.

Of course there are methods of reducing this effect in your home, prolonging the life of your appliances, protecting your central heating system and boiler. Here at LHS Plumbing Services we have the knowledge to help you prevent the build up of scale in your home ensuring hard water is reduced as it enters your property. Read here.
